Radiation Therapy

The images above are from the installation of Radiation Therapy, which was displayed for a month in Cal State Fullerton's Titan Student Union.  On opening night, there was a public viewing and open forum for questions and critique.

The focus of this independent study project was to use architecture to provide a solution to anthropogenic disasters.  The disasters, or "diseases," in question are nuclear waste and deforestation.  The design premise was based on these two diseases informing one another: Disease B is inserted into an organism with Disease A, because the organism can live with Disease B but will die from Disease A.  Radiation therapy is one example of this.  Radiation is inserted into a forest in order to protect it from further deforestation.

Architectural precedence included Tschumi's Parc de la Villette and Russell Thomsen and Eric Kahn's Thinking the Future of Auschwitz.  This project aims to start a dialogue on how human lifestyles impact the environment and how disconnect from nature leads to solutions that further exploit it.
